Yikes! Last Day to Register for 2010 BJP... Pictures!

December 15th is the last day to register for the 2010 BJP...

If you're undecided, take a look at my blog, here. I just posted pictures of some of my favorite pieces from the past year of the BJP... 42 pictures (most click-to-enlarge)... work by 40 of our participants!!!! I was erratic at saving pictures, so I didn't get all of my favorites. Also some members don't have a blog or didn't post pictures to the website. However, the pictures I posted will give you some grand inspirations and incentives to join the 2010 BJP!!!!

Happy holidays, everyone!!!
Robin

PS... If you're having difficulty registering or have questions about it, you can email

me: robin[at}robinatkins{dot]com
or Pam T: pamtru63{at]gmail[dot}com

PSS... Thanks for your well wishes about my Mom. During the week I was in Minnesota, she rallied nicely. I'm hoping she'll make her 93rd birthday in January!

HI from Chilly Minnesota...

Hi everyone!

My dear Mom took a turn for the worse a week ago and we thought her time among us was at an end. So my sister (who lives in Everett, WA) and I flew back to MN to be with her. Luck for us, she has rallied and we are spending some quality moments with her.

In the meantime, I've been having a little time to bead again with Julie, Pam and Brenda, all three BJP participants living in St. Paul, MN! Tomorrow we're going to Pam's for another session. We're having great fun talking about our ideas for BJP 2010. Brenda's working on a special beaded box that will hold her 2010 pieces. I won't spill the beans about it, but it's going to be amazing! Pam's talking about wanting more texture, more dimension to her pieces. Julie is still very undecided. Me too, although I have lots of ideas and I'm pretty sure I'll do some shape other than 4x6, the postcard shape I've been using for the past two years.

What about YOU????????

Will you be with us? I hope so!!!! There are only 5 more days to register. Really, truely, it is not hard. If the registration information on our website seems to difficult or doesn't work on your computer, just email Pam T or me and tell us you want to be in. We'll take care of it.

One current member emailed me to say she hadn't finished this year's pieces yet and therefore felt she shouldn't do it again. My answer is this: Don't be bogged down by last year's business... If you think you'd like to try it again, go for it. Let 2008-09 rest and move on!!!

May you all have a deliciously wonderful holiday season. May your stockings be filled with fabulous beads!

Hugs to you all,
Robin

Re-inspired

I took Robin Atkin's "techniques for Bead embroidery" class this past Friday and have been re inspired! I had quit on several months, leaving them semi-finished. I had not been able to figure out ways to make the backs look good, I had run out of steam and ideas on the beading on some of them and just called them finished. and I still have one month that has been sewn but not beaded yet.

BUT after this class I have been totally re inspired. I learned so many new techniques. and all the variations of them. I have been beading almost non-stop since I got back. After finishing the sampler, I revisited some of my journal pages that I had previously thought was done. I have been working on some wonderful additions to my December page. I feel like I see the fabric in a whole new way. Getting unstuck is just a bugel bead pathway away.

Also seeing her work in person turned on the light bulb for how to finish my own and ways to display them to really show them off. Now I just need to get some book board and foam core to get them done. I was also excited to share my work with Robin (which she seemed to enjoy!)

I got another one of her books (I own 3 now) and I highly recommend them!

So I signed up for another year of the beaded journal project. I plan to take on a smaller size this time! but thinking about going 3-D and making them dolls.

Okay, off the computer and back to some beading... next I hit the joann's on black friday to get an Ott light for cheap!

This is my last BeadJournal piece . It is for the month of August. Have enjoyed doing this and I must say that I am proud of myself to have completed this project. Looking forward to next year's journal. I turned 65 this October and for my birthday my husband decided to turn our storage room into a studio for me. It is a small room but I think it will look great when done. Check on funkybeading blogspot.com to see the before pictures and when done I will post pictures of THE STUDIO. The Butterfly book: a BJP compilation - a look inside

A portion of the butterflies in their bound state.
Each page has satin ribbons above and below the page. I've added all the yarn and beads to the butterflies on the top to show a continuous vine.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

The Butterfly book: a BJP compilation

I completed the Beaded Journal Project commitment and had 12 lovely butterflies. I bound them with a coptic stitch and made an metal butterfly to place on the front cover.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

August Butterfly BJP

The August butterfly is serendipitous. I played with the beads making an extremely textured butterfly. It marks the month when butterflies begin to make their journey elsewhere.

So long butterfly friends. I eagerly await your return and beauty.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

July Butterfly BJP

July is one of the warmest months of the year in Arizona. The maroon shows the heat of the day when you can literally cook an egg on the sidewalk. The silver color used reminds us of the things that make us chill; ice, cold drinks, A/C.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

June Butterfly BJP

June begins the heat of the sun in the desert and I opted for a different color. The lilac color of this butterfly keeps me thinking cool.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

May Butterfly BJP

A butterfly for Mom who loves the color blue.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

April Butterfly BJP

Spring is in full bloom and the butterflies have returned. I played with larger beads to accentuate the wing shape. A colorful bead plays as the body of this butterfly.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

March Butterfly BJP

I am most creative as spring rolls its way toward the season. Many of the butterfly creations were monochromatic while this design departs from that showing a change in style.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

February Butterfly BJP

February is another favorite month of mine. I celebrate a birthday, Valentine's Day, and an anniversary. This pink butterfly shows its pretty colors happily.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

January Butterfly BPJ

January is a time to reflect, a time to put out the old and bring in the new. Silver and white depict the cold and snow that some experience. The little silver tips show that change is beginning.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

Dec Butterfly BJP

December marks the holidays with the red and gold tinsel. I later added holly for the leaves to this page.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

Nov Butterfly BJP

September in Arizona is still hot yet I remember from my hometown on northern CA when we had fairly brisk days. The blue in this butterfly show the cold slipping in to CA while the golden brown depict the warm afternoon sun of Arizona.

Victoria Pearman AKA artntheheart

October Butterfly BJP

October is a favorite ghoulish month for me with great memories of trick or treat and goblins. The colors of this butterfly show the Halloween flavor and drying of leaves.

Victoria Pearman aka artntheheart

Sept butterfly BJP

In the spring of 2008 in Arizona, I noticed a flurry of butterfly action in our yard. Gorgeous iridescent flight in action. Tracing their steps from flower to flower, sunning themselves and onward to another treasure.

I choose butterflies for my beaded journal pages for their magic, their beauty and colors. The colors used in each butterfly reflects the depicted month.

This is a close up of my July BJ piece. July is usually hot in our part of the country... Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada but no so this year. It's OVER?

Well I just don't know what to say! I had such good intentions when I signed up, I even drafted up my actual postcard images AND did the writeups for each of the months too! It did not pan out for me except for the September and October postcard tops that I did finish off. I do intend to complete this project one of these days as I think each month portrays something that is a deep part of myself and will be uplifting and fun for me to do - when - who knows though.

I just want to say that I've added Susan's blurb for the 2010 year and hope that some of my friends may sign up. Sadly I will not do such this time but who knows maybe again in the future. It has been fun checking on the various blogs and I will check out the main site to see what has transpired this past year! Have fun all!

Promoting the Bead Journal Project for Year 3

Last year we found that the best way to get the word out about the bjp was to mention it on your blog. Whether you're continuing or not, if you can let readers of your blog know that the project is continuing, it will be greatly appreciated.

Important info:

The Bead Journal Project starts in January, 2010.

Registration starts October 1, 2009 at beadjournalproject.com/reg.htm.

No experience is necessary! The goal is to create one visual journal piece a month for a year that includes beads.

Participants work can be seen at beadjournalproject.com/bjp.htm.

Thanks for all your support!!!

I have completed all of my blocks for this challange. I had no idea when I started with a tribute block to my son, that I would lose my husband before the end of the project. My blocks are ready to be put together into a finished wall hanging. I am going to try to get it done very soon. These are photos of them in groups of three. I really enjoyed doing this and loved viewing everyone's work.

My August triangle - As The Sun Sets

I couldn't finish the current BJP year, with anything other than the setting sun. It's my first attempt at visual journalling and also my first extensive use of encrusted bead embroidery. My skills have grown and I've learned to pay attention to the whispering words of my muse. I lost an old friend quite suddenly this month. She loved the sun and the black speck signifies her being enveloped by it's warmth. The original pallette was much softer, but as the temperature got hotter outside, so did the colours. Don't worry about the sun setting on this BJP year, as it's sure to rise again in 2010. I'd like to thank Robin for her constant encouragement and all of my new friends for their comments and enthusiasm. My plan is to enter this piece in a Canadian National Juried Quilt Show in 2010. Of course that means that I actually need to do some quilting to showcase the beading. LOL!

Bead stitches include the boucle or bocche stitch (discussed in my previous post), stacked stitch, short fringe (on the sun) and free form beading. I used 8, 11 & 15 Japanese beads and 11, 2cut czech beads for sparkle (the darker pink). Sadly, I just couldn't use my variety of odd beads on this one. They just didn't fit the scheme. See you in 2010!!

July Triangle - Along the garden path

This triangle shows my love of colour, flowers, techniques and combines them with a passion for photography . It's also about the paths you choose in life and illustrates that while some just seem to stop short, others are crystal clear and lead directly to your goals. Well, directly might be the wrong word, as nothing in life is ever perfect or straightforward. Paths often curve before they reach their destinations, leading you towards interesting sights, unforseen problems and exciting adventures. This little garden is all about life!

The seed beads are mainly size 11's, with some 15's and 8's thrown in for effect. I also used bugles (2's), pearls and crystals. I used peyote, bocche (also called boucle-a stitch mentioned on another group), stacked, fringe, loops and Robin's wildflower stitch. The curved path is made of size 11 seed beads couched over a slightly flattened braid.

Missing

I know I've been missing for quite some time, but I have been working on my bjp pieces. This is my completed June piece. It is in memory of my husband of nearly 37 years whom I lost on May the 3rd to COPD. It has been very hard for me to continue this as he always encouraged me to try new things.I used ribbon, rubber stamping wired beads and embroidery stitching to sew on the photo I scanned onto fabric. This is something I have learned to do while working on these blocks. I love working with the Delicas.
I also completed July. It was a UFO from a yard sale box. I addedbugle beads, sequins, charms and letter beads to turn a red and white heart into a red white and blue heart. It was quite fun. Only August left to go!

July BJP Done!

I finished my July BJP and you can find it here. My piece started off as one thing and turned out to be another. I think that happens a lot in life, that we start off on one path and find ourselves on another. As I'm writing this and thinking about those paths, I realize that almost every piece of artwork I have shows a path, and a bench, and a garden...I like the idea of daydreaming about where the path leads, or sitting on the bench and enjoying the garden. Whatever path you are on today, may it bring you daydreams of happiness and peace.

Thank you.

Another garden triangle - June

I love to visit my friend's house when the poppies are in full bloom. Sure they are brash and blowsy, but oh so very delicate. I try to photograph the quality of the light glowing on the scarlet petals, but alas my quest is in vain. Am I tilting at windmills, or will I be able to capture their essense at some time in the future? What is it about these beauties that seems to pique my interest? A simple pleasure. One that's fleeting, but oh so rewarding. Is it any wonder that poppies were chosen as a universal symbol for remembrance? Did you know that the poem, "In Flanders Fields" was written by a Canadian field surgeon? Do you realize that this is the only poem I will never be able to forget? I can recite it just as clearly now, as when I was a small child. Rather than a trick of simple repetition, I prefer to think that it is something that left a pure and lasting impression on my soul.

The poppies are made with freehand circles of silk and organza, topped with french knots. Beading was done with backstitch, stacked stitch, Robin's ruffle stitch and free form edging. I used 8, 11 & 15 seedbeads, bugles, a few sequins and odds 'n sods of beads and crystals.

Still in the Game

Still in the game... These 9 are mostly all done, backing on several and a little beading on a few still need to be done. The other 3 are in thinking (August); collecting and sketching (July); and sewing (June) phases.

News Flash!!!! + Please Tell Us Why....

Hi Everyone!

2010 BJP is a GO!!!!

To give ourselves a little time to finish up the current BJP, we will start the new BJP in January of 2010 and it will run through the end of December.

Registration for 2010 BJP will begin in October, following the close of the current BJP. You can keep up to date on registration by checking the Bead Journal Project website, here. Also, I'll post a reminder in September on our blogs.

Please Answer Poll!

Please take a moment to answer the poll at the top of the right sidebar on the 08BJP (#1) blog, here. I'd really like to get an idea of how many people are still participating and how far along we all are. Last year we did two email follow-up surveys... This year I'm trying to get the information by polling you. I really appreciate your response!

Please Tell Us Why...!

I know everyone's busy beading... but if you can spare a moment, will you please take a moment to send me an email telling a little about your experience with the BJP... what it means to you, why you are doing it (what are your rewards), anything you think a prospective new participant might want to hear about it....

With your permission, I'd like to use some of what you write in the information we publish about the 2010 BJP. If you have any reservations about us quoting you, please let me know.

Thanks, everyone! You are so awesome...!

Big hugs and big bravos... Robin A.

Goddess's in the house!

Hi Everyone!
Here are some more Goddess's for you to enjoy. http://bitsofbeads.blogspot.com
I'm back in the beading mode and I'm happy to say that the beads didn't fail, only my creativity stalled for a bit!
It does feel good to bead again, after a long pause.
cheers, Denise

My May Triangle

May is, quite simply, cherry blossom time. I'm not really a pink person, but I confess to waiting anxiously for those very first blossoms. This piece is about the simple joy of nature and creation. Isn't it all amazing? No, the world is not full of light, but somehow this time of year reinforces my belief in the possibility of change. The background of the tree is a scrap of monoprinted satin that I made with transfer paints. I have a postcard from this material currently hanging in the Grand National Postcard Show at Joseph Schneider Haus in Kitchner, ON. (the show opened in May). The tree is free motion embroidered by machine and the central motif is 1 1/2" X 2". The piece contains silk flowers, pearls, accent beads, 8, 11 & 15 seeds & #2 bugles. Stitches used are peyote, for the bezel, backstitch, stack stitch and free form edging.

I'd like to dedicate the pink light in this piece (okay it has some blue, red and orange as well) to Pam T. You are one courageous lady, and I'm honoured to be in the same BJP group.

Little Mouse

This is my granddaughter whom I am making the book for. I did finish this book and will show you more of it later. Her graduation was this last weekend and she soooooo loved this book. She could not remember giving me this little story but when she saw the original story she said. Oh grandma thats my handwriting and had a little cry. This was a lot of work but worth every minute!!! Spring has come by the water fall
