February piece

Yipee! February is a time of celebration. My nephew and his wife (after many years of marriage & doctor's visits) have announced that they're having a baby. While the symbolism in this piece is not obvious, I tried to give it a party atmosphere. Included are painted teabag yo-yo's (Tetley, of course), three shells from an old necklace of my mother's (she's no longer with us, but loved babies so would want to be a part), an acrylic painted washer (for the masculine element), purple pearls (my sister's favourite colour) and a mixture of miscellaneous beads, including hearts and flowers (because I'm rooting for a girl). BTW, the teabags were used, but I did dry and empty them before painting. The picture is a little dark, due to my taking it on a dreary rainy day. I promise to post again when the sun is shining.

These triangles are such a wonderful expression of mixed media. I would be hard pressed to ever have to choose a favorite . . .

Oh another lovely triangle! It definitely has a party feel to it, great colors and so much texture! Congrats to your nephew and his wife...!
I confess, I would probably be arranging and rearranging the triangles too, they must be incredible to see all together...

I love your little trianges. I wish I had them right now to touch and move around and match sides and them move them again. Therapy for the soul~

I love them.

It does look festive. So many happy thoughts went into this little triangle, and the happiness shows. All good wishes to the expectant parents.

This celebration piece and the shape of it are both irresistable!

Commenting on the shape first... it's like those triangular shaped puzzles with the bugs, one on each side, and you try to get them all matched... only even more compelling... I really want to play with them!!!

Now to your Feb. piece... WOW!!! You really got a lot into it, didn't you. I LOVE the painted washer (grand idea), shells, flowers, hearts... and the ideas behind it all. Only things I can not for the life of me figure out are the teabag yo-yo's... where/what are they?????? Will you post a picture of all 6 pieces together one of these days? Thanks!!! Robin A.

Thanks, everyone for your kind comments. I'm having an awful lot of fun!

Robin, in answer to your question, one of the teabag yo-yo's is directly under the hearts. The other one is slightly above. The yo-yo's were actually the first element chosen for the piece. They were originally very visible, but needed beads to integrate them into the whole. Everything in the piece is about the circle of life (well, except for the bugles)and Tetley teabags are circular. Yo-yo's (also called Suffolk Puffs) are just gathered circles. The teabags are also about me. I rarely drink alcohol, so am more likely to celebrate with a nice cup of tea. Yo-yo's were one of my first forays into the world of quilting and I own a fabric piece that I suspect was made by my grandmother (more circles). It's also about recycling, reusing and breathing new life into something destined for the landfill. - Anne Marie

I'll try and take a picture of all 6 triangles next weekend.

Oops! I should have said that the two heart beads are on top of one yo-yo's and the other one is directly below (not above). Sorry for the confusion.
